Shepherd's Potato Stew with Beef

Delish! Easy to make. Wonderful after a day on the trail. Only criticism - a bit too salty.

I feel like this one needs a little love. While I did find the calorie discrepancy from some of the other meals a little odd, I thought this was a very good and filling dinner on my third night in the Zirkel Wilderness in Colorado. I actually preferred it over the Pad Thai I had the night before. Too each his own, but this with a packet of Texas Pete was a very solid meal.

Had my order show up and the box looked like it had been kicked down the road for a few miles. All meals were accounted for, but two were broken open. Called customer service and they had no problem making things right. Two meals showed up in no time and everything was made good. Company is easy to work with and meals pack great when going into the Bob Marshall Wilderness.

Hands down my favorite!

Doesn't taste very good, unlike most Backpacker's Pantry meals. 30% Less calories than other meals and less protein than most vegetarian meals. No good reason to purchase.

Really good dinner and a filling meal while on the trail. Heats up nice and tastes great. Remember to stir up the bottom real good. Higher altitudes mean longer cool times. Enjoy!

These 5 star reviews have to be fake because this was awful. I've eaten a lot of freeze dried meals and thought I would give this one a try. Worst ever. It had a very off taste and I couldn't finish it.

Very tasty and surprisingly plentiful with vegetables. Great dinner on night 7 of a long trip. Will be added to the “buy again” list!

Very Salty!! The meal was very thick, and hard to discern the different flavors. Overall, we were very disappointed in this meal.

If I didn't add boiling water and stir it myself, I would of thought it was fresh cooked. Great meal, will buy Beef Shepard's Pie again.

This was the second meal I had of Backpackers Pantry while on a long backpack trip. This one was more like a everything mixed into mashed potatoes pouch. It didn’t taste very good but most concerning was the way that it made me feel after. I was extremely gassy and uncomfortable, it also left a very bad acidic and weird potato taste in my mouth that was very unpleasant. My fellow backpackers had the same meal and it had the same effect on them as well. Worst gas I’ve ever smelt from myself and friends. Avoid at all costs.

The potato is bland, there is no flavor in this meal. I am truly disappointed with this product.

This is not a stew. The bulk of this entree is made of potato flakes, so the consistency is similar to instant mashed potatoes. I could not finish it and had to throw it away. The flavor was off and it just did not taste good or look appetizing. I think this can be improved by making it into a stew by using potato chunks instead of the potato flakes. Very disappointed in this one.

I will likely order this one again, if only for variety. It is tasty, and satiating. That said, it’s not one I’d think of if asked about preferred backpacking dinners.

This freeze dried shepherds pie meal was awesome! Hearty enough to share between my wife and I. Lots of yummy vegetables and spices.

This blend is amazing. We went one step farther and added it to the garlic mash potatoes mixture side to make it a really hearty meal. This was a dinner on our recent BWCA trip for a cold, rainy day. The combination of ingredients instantly makes you feel warm, satisfied, and full.
