This is my favorite backpacking meal ever. Sometimes I think I prefer it over pad Thai from an actual restaurant haha
Wow, thank you Scott! We are flattered and so glad you enjoyed!
I've tried all the backpacking foods out there and this one takes the cake. Delicious flavor with enough calories to actually feed you during a ski mountaineering expedition. I don't find it spicy whatsoever -- but then again I put 4 Thai chilis in most meals I cook so I'm not a good judge. Only downside is the peanuts can get rancid over time; they could probably just be left out. Also, would prefer the peanut butter be made with 1 ingredient -- peanuts -- instead of that palm oil weirdness. But overall, amazing.
It was too spicy for my palate,
Hi there, thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry the Pad Thai was too spicy for you. We’ll consider offering milder options in the future. Hope you give us another try!
Was great good portions and very pleased
Made me ill…not good for IBS folks. Too much red or green peppers. No umami.
Hi David, we're sorry to hear the Pad Thai didn't meet your expectations and caused discomfort. We appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to our team. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Sean
This was way too spicy for me.
Hi Patricia, thanks for sharing your feedback. We're sorry the spice level was too much for you. We'll consider this for future recipes to better suit everyone's taste. Hope you try us again!
Great backpacking meal! We often get the one with chicken as it has more protein but enjoyed this one on a recent trip with vegetarian friends. We added some peanut butter which was a great addition, not only added protein and complementary flavor, but helped to mellow out the spice a bit!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the meal!
Have a great time out there!
Sean
My daughter really enjoyed this meal. The packets of peanuts and peanut butter made it fun.
Glad you enjoyed everything!
Really easy to cook and clean up and pack out
Ive had plenty of these before and always reach for one regardless of how long a trip I'm on. Delicious, filling and lightweight. Easy to make and easy to eat. What more could you ask for. Excited to try the oatmeal on a beautiful morning soon!
Hey Mark,
We are stoked you enjoyed your meal! Have fun out there!
Sean
Want sure what to expect. Most other companies have really high salt, this meal was surprisingly low, high in potassium, 105g carbs, lot of energy.
Tastes good. Peanut butter is real, has a one year lower shelf life than the rest of the meal, I would use my powder peanut butter past that date.
Mostly for emergencies but wanted something I would actually eat for lunch if I ended up not needing it. This passes, $10 lunch, especially with inflation, is a good investment for a few years.
Thanks for the great review, Austin! We are so glad you enjoyed our Pad Thai. Peanut butter powder is a great idea to replace expired peanut butter or to add a bit of extra peanut flavor!
This version seems a lot different than the old one. Smaller and without the other little packets of lime and sriracha. On one hand I'm glad they've cut down on the plastic but I really enjoyed having the control. The meal itself also seemed smaller which is to bad. Still delicious though and I will certainly buy it again like I always do!

My pad Thai meal wasn’t too heavy on the lime flavor, which I see other people have commented on. Mine was oddly heavy on tomato flavor- it was kind of like a pink ketchup-y flavor on rice noodles. Not really wowed by this meal - I felt like I could buy an instant Asian ramen package or something like that which would taste better and dump my own peanuts on it for a “pad Thai”-esque experience…
Hi Gabrielle,
I am so sorry to hear that you did not love our Pad Thai. We have done our best to bring you a backpacking-friendly version of Pad Thai, but recognize that dehydrated food will not exactly match what you would find in a restaurant. We hope you can find another meal you DO enjoy- perhaps our Drunken Noodles with Chicken!
Ever since we were introduced to the Pad Thai somewhere outside of the Tetons in 2020, this has been our favorite go-to backpacking meal. I have one request: Bring back the individual packets for the spices and lime powder! I loved being able to season the meal to my tastes. Now it's a tad too spicy for me, but I persist....
Thank you for the great review, Titania! We're so glad you enjoy our Pad Thai, and will definitely consider that as we continue to test and update our meals!
This was my first time trying backpackers pantry and I was a little disappointed. The Pad Thai tastes strongly of lime and throws the rest of the food off. It’s ok but I wouldn’t purchase again. Looking forward to trying another dish!
Hey Brookelyn! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are so sorry the Pad Thai didn't live up to your expectations, and we will certainly keep this in mind as we continue to test and update our meals. We would love to send you a few meals you DO love to make up for this experience! Please email info@backpackerspantry.com with the two meals you would like to try. Thanks again!
Title says it all, the BP Pad Thai is the best freeze dried meal of all time. Its genuinely delicious. Plus all the little packets of lime, sriracha and peanut butter allow the eater to get their flavor ratio just right.
Thank you for the great review, Roshan! We are so glad you enjoyed our Pad Thai!
I used this meal on the first night of a 34 trek from the northern terminus of the great smokies north into Hot Springs NC. I enjoy spicy food despite having a sensitive stomach. Something definitely tasted off in my experience and set of a stomach issue preventing me from eating another hot meal for the remainder of my excursion. If you have a refined pallet or sensitive stomach avoid this one. THREE CHEESE MAC & CHEESE is my goto and I do look forward to trying the PASTA & SPRING VEGETABLES WITH BUTTER SAUCE and LOUISIANA RED BEANS & RICE for variety for my upcoming 2024 Backpacking Season.
Easy to make, but I didn't get a peanut butter packet! Disappointed that the quality control is lacking. I would recommend, but this was the first time trying Backpacker's Pantry products, so I'm not sure if ingredients are missing from packets on a regular basis. Pad Thai packets wasn't good without the peanut butter.
Worst I’ve ever had
Hi Greg- I’m so sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with our Pad Thai. We would love to hear more about why you did not enjoy this meal- we take all of our customer feedback very seriously!
We would also love to send you a couple of the meals you do enjoy to make up for this experience! Please email info@backpackerspantry.com to let us know which two meals you would like to try and your shipping address. Thank you!
This is a good meal with a lot of good flavors. Definitely recommend
Thanks, Laura! It's one of our favorites as well- so glad you enjoy!
This was delicious and it was amazing to find a vegan option for our backpacking trip. The pad Thai was by far my favorite.
I ordered a large supply of assorted GF meals during 2020 pandemic. I'm celiac and it's next to impossible to find GF meals like this. I just ate
my first Backpacker's Pantry meal tonight because I noticed the best buy date was 2022. Absolutely delicious! Thank you so much
for making the extra effort for allergens. I love this food and the healthy ingredients!! Generous portions per bag. So easy to make and fun to eat.
Thank you so much!
Just as the title states. Medium spice, good consistency and an overall good meal. My girlfriend eats freeze dried food now. I'm proud.
We're proud too. Thanks for the great review, Jake!
Awesome
This is not for backpacking only. I enjoy the Pad Thai so much that I bring it in to work for lunch!
A coworker recommended the pad Thai. So I bought 3. Shared one with my hiking companion. We both thought it was awful. Threw out the third one when I got home. Hiking buddy said the only thing this has going for it is that it’s warm. Disappointing after a 9 mile hike when you’re really hungry. Putting this on my nope list. 👎 one star because at least it was warm.
Hi Jay,

This is my absolute favorite backpacking meal of any brand vegan or not. Im allergic to all things even resembling milk so this is a perfect item, and wile not vegan myself its great to pack for thoes who are. It is so good in fact that I have made a point the last few years to set aside a pack for my birthday camping trip (yup even good in December).
This is my favorite backpacking meal! I discovered by surprise at this last trip, that the meals have changed and all spices are now pre-mixed vs before you could add you’re desired level of siracha powder... We had one person in our group that can’t do spice (causes GI upset) and had to forgo all dinners during the trip (all we brought were the pad Thai and Chana masala). They were forced to eat some the last night because we ran out of alternative food. :/
