Well here goes. I purchased a storage locker that contained a vast quantity of freeze dried foods. Included was 5 packages of The Fettuccini Alfredo with chicken. The best by date is 8/10/22 so the product was past that date by approx. 3 1/2 years. The packaging is a bit different 7.5oz and makes 2 servings. Well I thought what the heck and made a package according to the instructions. I was blown away at just how good this stuff is. I can't imagine it tasting better if I would have eaten it by the best buy date. I added a teaspoon of butter after I made it. It goes to show you that they must be using quality ingredients and packaging this stuff properly! Just buy it!

Instead of packing sandwiches for a long day hike, I threw my stove in the pack along with Backpackers Supply entree, Pesto Pasta with Chicken. The small penne pasta was perfect after about 15 minutes of set time, along with the chicken and pesto it was a gourmet meal, so glad I didn’t have to share it. 🙂
I was excited to see the tree nut free menu. I ordered a large supply as it’s difficult, if not impossible to find food that is nut safe. I should have looked closer at the packaging. Processed in a facility…. Is the same as having the nuts in the ingredients. Sure, it reduces the likelihood, but anaphylaxis on a camping trip only ends one way. If you can’t ensure it’s safe, you really need to stop offering it. It’s not a hard thing to achieve. Or perhaps it is…. Anyone want to buy all of my food?

You are correct that we produce products in our facility that have tree nuts. The reason we are able to claim our products are nut free is that we work directly with the FDA on sanitation between blends and test our products to 5PPM for many different allergens. If you bought these items through us, we would be happy to refund you for the cost if you were willing to ship them back to us. We work with many folks regarding their tree nut allergies, and they all trust us with our process as they reached out to us and we went through our procedures to ensure safe food to eat.

I purchased quite a few of the Backpacker's Pantry meals and I must say that none of them disappointed. I look forward to trying others but for now my favorites were the fettuccini alfredo, 3 cheese mac and cheese, lasagna, and Pad Thai. They taste fresh and you can tell are made with quality ingredients! With some dehydrated meals I find my stomach gets upset or there is an aftertaste, but this was not the case with these ! I did notice there were some chunks that were a little tougher or didn't rehydrate as much as the rest but that could be user error with amount of water or cook time.... Honestly, It's a no brainer, order from them for your next trip!
