Great food, fantastic shelf life
My "rancid" freeze dried meal nightmare was 1980, in Collegiate Peaks range, camped at treeline, below Mt. Columbia. Freeze dried meal spoiled — went bad somehow. Package felt wrong, was spongy, not firm. Didn't smell bad. It tasted rancid, but I had no gag reflex. So, I ate it. In middle of night had to puke, but held it down like a trooper. Hours later had severe diarrhea instead. Summited Mt. Columbia that day. Me: Outdoors lover, vintage old-timer "action-figure," bicycle rider, hiker; used to be active backpacker & thru-hiker. I'm living alone, doing everything alone, shoestring budget, all by myself. Did five solo backpacking trips in The Rawah Wilderness, summer 2008. Still had two dinners saved: B.Pantry Spicy Thai Peanut Sauce w/rice & veggies, "best when used by 05-31-2010;" and M.House Pasta Primavera, "best used by June 2014." Just ate both last week. Why eat them now? I have experience with rancid meals. ***? Twisted my leg and foot horrendously. Been housebound 45+ days, on crutches, can't drive. Rationing, out of food, going hungry at home, losing weight. Very Bad! NOT into expensive takeout food, grub-hub, smartphone apps, Amazon, Facebook, etc. DO NOT live this way. I'm a retired audio-video engineering tech. I took drastic emergency countermeasures by ordering two B.Pantry veggie 3-day kits, and two M.House 3-day kits. Ate some tasty B.Pantry meals last week. Thank You very, very much!!! Just ordered 3 more B.Pantry veggie 3-day kits! Labor day sale.

We’ve always eaten well when causally camping and doing day hikes, but when we decided to do backcountry camping for four days the need to improve our preparations. These meals were awesome!! I eat meat often enough to expect it when I’m planning our meals for four days. I didn’t miss meat at all, and why should I when I had Kathmandu Curry and Pad Thai as my meals. My daughters especially loved the Mac and cheese as well as the creme brûlée. We all enjoyed veggie chili’s along with veggie lasagna. Well done chefs!! I felt honored to unpack my secret stash of protein bars that I had as backup if your food was no good. We have done several more backcountry camping adventures and everyone is surprised when my kids list food near the top as a favorite part of the trip. We know the shelf life is long on this food, but once you’ve enjoyed these meals don’t expect them to last long since they’re easy to prepare and taste great.
