The Backpacking List You Didn't Know You Needed

Backpacking Accessories To Bring On Your Next Trip

It's imperative that you have all of your backpacking essentials before heading out on your trip. But, this backpacking season, you may want to leave some room in your pack for a some game-changing backpacking accessories. We've compiled a list of small, lightweight items that you wouldn't think to bring with you on the trail but will dramatically improve your overall experience. These lightweight accessories will:

  • Add value to your outdoor adventure
  • Make your trek more convenient
  • Increase your comfort level
  • And make you a happier camper!

Biodegradable Face & Body Cleaning Wipes

Nothing feels better than hopping into the shower after a long day. While this luxury isn't a reality when backpacking, face and body wipes can help you feel a little more refreshed, as you cleanse the dirt and grime away.

When choosing your face and body wipes, be sure to choose ones that are biodegradable. Biodegradable means wipes that are made from sustainable, natural fibers like bamboo or viscose. Most traditional wipes are made of polyester or polypropylene, and will sit in the landfill for decades after a single use.

Biodegradable Wipes To Try:

Keep in mind that using biodegradable wipes doesn't give you a pass to leave them behind at your campsite. Be sure to follow the Leave No Trace principles each and every time you recreate in the outdoors.

A Lightweight Pocket Towel

When you come across a stream, spill water in your tent, or simply need to wipe off some sweat on a hot day, a towel really comes in handy. Opt-for a lightweight, absorbent, quick dry pocket towel and choose the material wisely. A single piece of synthetic clothing (polyester, lycra, spandex, nylon, rayon) can shed more than 1900 microplastic fibers every time it's washed -- this includes microfiber towels.

Lava is a sustainable microfiber towel company that is made with natural fibers, not microfibers. The Lava Mini Travel Towel is the perfect size for a backpacking trip. It's compact size makes it easy to fit into the smallest crevices of your pack.

- It's naturally anti-microbial (so it won't get stinky)

- Is 50% more absorbent than microfiber per square inch

- And has a far more pleasant texture than microfiber towels.

Mosquito Repellent Balm

Skip the bottle of insect repellent and pack a balm instead! This will not only prevent a catastrophic spill in your bag, but it's also super lightweight & compact. We like Murphy's Naturals Mosquito Repellent balm.

Murphy's Naturals Mosquito Repellent Is:

  • All natural, plant-based and free from harmful chemicals such as DEET

  • Actually effective

  • Surprisingly nice smelling

  • A low price

Personal Water Filter

A safety kit isn't complete without one. A personal water filter provides an added level of security when you are out on the trail. LifeStraw  is equipped with powerful technology that will filter through even the murkiest of water. Easy to use in an emergency or in the backcountry when you need a simple way to filter water, this is a great gadget to add to your packing list!

Collapsible Trekking Poles

Take your hike to the next level with trekking poles! Trekking poles really do make a difference when it comes to thru hike trips. Poles help you keep your balance, especially when you get tired & they take off stress & pressure on your joints. We love Trail Buddy Trekking Poles, as they are extremely comfortable & provide stability on all different types of terrain.

These poles are easy to adjust & weigh less than other poles! You may never go back to hiking without them again . . .

Outdoor Anti Chafe Balm

This handy-dandy anti-chafe balm is perfect for hot, humid summer conditions.
